Day 1

Arrive at Colombo airport and transfer to Negombo [Travelling time by car - ½ hr].

BEACH WALK – Easy. Late afternoon leisure walks on the beach. Overnight accommodation in Negombo.

 

DAY 2

After early breakfast leave for Sigiriya [Travelling time by car – 3 hrs].

Arrive at Hotel Sigiriya.

NATURE TRAIL – Easy

Walk along a nature trail starting from the hotel(Allow approx. 3 hours for the trek)

The trek winds its way on a flat terrain through the village past patches of jungle, chena cultivations, small mud houses and the simple and very friendly village folk going about their daily routines.

Stop at a chena cultivation to enjoy a typical Sri Lankan lunch.

SIGIRIYA ROCK FORTRESS - Easy

Evening visit Sigiriya Rock Fortress(Allow approx 2 hrs).

Sigiriya is popularly known as the "Lion Rock" or the "Fortress in the Sky". King Kasyapa built this legendary Citadel during his reign 477 - 495 AC.

Overnight stay at Sigiriya.

Day 3

After breakfast proceed to Knuckles Mountain range [Travelling time by car approx 4 hours].

Originally, the villagers called this region the “Dumbara Kanduvetiya” meaning “misty mountains”. The area was then named as ‘Knuckles ‘ by British Surveyors, due to a prominent landscape feature – a group of five peaks extending from the west to the southeast of the country resembling the knuckles of a clenched fist.

The Knuckles Mountain Range is a major ecotourism venue of Sri Lanka and has been declared a conservation area, now known as the KNUCKLES NATIONAL HERITAGE AND WILDERNESS AREA.

KOBONILLA-DEENSTON-MINI WORLD’S END TRAIL(Allow approx. 4 hours)

Proceed late afternoon.A 20km trail. Enjoy the panoramic view from Mini World’s end (400m msl) located opposite the Deenston forest office. This area is within the Knuckles Conservation Forest.

Day 4

KOBONILLA-LOOLWATTE-CORBETT’S GAP TRAIL(Allow approx 4 hours)

A 14km trail. Enjoy the panoramic view, unique rock formations and different vegetation types from the Corbet’s gap-sphinx rock, Kalupanaha, Lakegala to the North-east and Dumbara valley to the east are breathtaking.
Afternoon relax and explore the surroundings.

Overnight stay at Knuckles (Basic accommodation)

Day 5

After breakfast proceed to Kandy [Travelling time by car approx. 2 hours]
Check in to hotel.

UDAWATTAKELE SANCTUARY - Easy

Afternoon visit Udawattakele Sanctuary (Allow approx 2½ hrs for the trail).This was once the ‘forbidden forest’ of the kings of Kandy. The sanctuary covers 257 acres and has many endemic species of flora and fauna, with over 150 species of birds.Sightseeing around the Kandy city, visiting the Lake and surrounding areas.

Overnight accommodation in Kandy.

Day 6

After breakfast visit the Royal Botanical gardens of Peradeniya.

Thereafter in the afternoon proceed to Delhouse and overnight accommodation at SLIGHTLY CHILLED YELLOW HOUSE (Guest house - standard)[Travelling time by car – 4½ hours] 

ADAM’S PEAK- Strenuous
Late night (approx 02.00 am) commence trek to Adam’s Peak (Allow approx 4 hrs to climb to the peak). One of the most important places of religious veneration and pilgrimage in Sri Lanka for over a thousand years. The Buddha is believed to have visited this beautiful mountain during one of his visits to the Island. The huge footprint on top of the mountain symbolizes this visit, and hence this holy mountain is named `Sri Pada' - the Sacred Footprint.

Others believe that it is the footprint of Adam when he first set foot on this earth - hence the mountain is also named `Adam's Peak'. The Hindu's believe it is the footprint of the Hindu God Lord Shiva.

The season to climb Sri Pada is between December and April.

Day 7

Return to hotel for late breakfast. Relax at the hotel until afternoon.Leave for Nuwara eliya.Sight seeing around the Tea plantations and water falls.Overnight stay in Nuwara eliya.     

Day 8

HORTON PLAINS TRAIL - Easy

With packet breakfast proceed to Horton Plains (Worlds End). (Allow approx 3 hrs)

1. Horton Plains Cloud Forests

Spread over 3160 hectares these quiet and mysterious wet zone plains in the south central hills are a paradise for treks. Horton Plains is a place of a very special desolate type of beauty.

2. World’s End

The 4 ½ km walk takes from 40 minutes to 1½ hours depending on how many times you stop to admire the view. You cross a small stream with lots of croaking frogs before passing across the grassland and then descending a few hundred metres through the forest.

3. Baker’s Falls

Return to the main path, and a track drops down to a valley along which a 2km walk leads to a small forested escarpment. A climb and then a scrambling descent (very slippery for the last few metres so take care) take you to the picturesque Baker’s Falls.

Day 9

After breakfast, proceed to Ratnapura the “City of Gems”[Travelling time by car –4 hours]

OPTIONAL – sightseeing tour of the city

In this well known city you can visit a gem mine to see the traditional mining techniques as fortune seeking miners clad in their loincloth excavate the earth searching for `Illama' - the gem bearing gravel,

Overnight stay in Ratnapura.

Day 10

TREK THROUGH THE SINHARAJA RAIN FOREST – Easy

[Travelling time by car – approx 1 hour] With packet breakfast leave the hotel early to visit the Sinharaja Rain Forest with local guide. (Allow approx 3-4 hrs).

In 1989 UNESCO recognized Sinharaja as an international biosphere reserve and became a World Heritage Site. Sinharaja, the last significant stretch of rainforest on the island to be left largely undisturbed, maintains enormous national importance. It is home to a remarkable array of endemic species. For example, 95% of the endemic birds of Sri Lanka and more than half of its mammals and butterflies have been recorded here.

Transfer to Colombo / Mount Lavinia for overnight accommodation.

Day 11

Breakfast at the hotel.
Afternoon sightseeing tour of the Colombo city – visiting the Independence square, Galle face, BMICH etc.Free for shopping.

Overnight stay in Colombo / Mount Lavinia

Day 12

After breakfast transfer to airport for departure flight (Approx travelling time 1 hr).
