Tour Tree House at Thalakotewewa
Tour - image

In recent times there has been a substantial increase in the concept of Agro tourism, the world over, with Sri Lanka being no exception to same.

Sri Lanka's complex paddy cultivation systems, developed over the course of 2500 years and more, huge ancient irrigational tanks and many tea and rubber plantations are just some examples of its diverse agricultural developments which ensures its ability to cater to a niche market of agro tourists.

At Eco Team can arrange diverse experiences ranging from milking cattle on a dairy farm, having a go at plucking tea leaves using the traditional ‘bag-on-the-head' method, rubber tapping under expert guidance, or even working in the many picturesque paddy fields of Sri Lanka!

Day 01

Arrival at Sigiriya [Near the Hotel Sigiriya ] around 9.30am

Welcome by Eco Team Representative.

Start the Thalakotewewa trail

Experience a typical Sri Lankan lunch. Your host owner of the paddy field will also join you for lunch

Evening optional bathing at the lake or do a leisure walk in the vicinity

BBQ Dinner and Overnight stay at tree house

Start the jungle / village trail to your Tree House at Thalkote Wewa. [Tank] This is about 5.2km long and takes about 3 hours. This trail is going through few jungle patches / chaina cultivations, paddy fields. The terrain is flat and assists easy walking. You will see the daily lives of the villagers unfolding in front of you .

A semi permanent tall structure constructed by wood where farmers spend the night time. They take terns to be up during the night to have an eye on their crops which are easy edible targets for wild elephants and other animals. Keeping the "camp fire" alive is also an important duty!

This a very primitive agricultural method where farmers slash and burn jungle patches for cultivation of short term crops. They mainly depend on rain water and there will not be any major field preparations. Farmers usually rotate between 2 to 3 land plots.

This ancient tank is located having the ancient Sigriya Rock Fortress and the Pidurangala Monastery Rock as the back drop. It provides a life line of water to many villagers in the area to cultivate their crops. Paddy / Onions and other varieties of vegetables are grown providing water from this tank.

With the night fall you will hear the villagers communicating in a most unique way [hooting!] about the presence of any elephants and the folk poems that they sing to keep them up.

BBQ dinner and over night stay in the Tree House.

[Basic comforts will be provided at the tree house [mattresses, Pillows, sheets, Towels, soap] Camp toilet each will be set up at the ground.

You could be part of the magical night by forming an association with the villagers and our team to experience this one of a life time adventure. Even in your slumber they would take the liberty to wake you up if there are any intruders in the vicinity
